Dr. Phyllis Alcott had joined the Flanders sex research project late the previous summer,

having been referred by Dr. Chamberlain shortly after being awarded her PhD from the medical college of which he was president.

He was a close friend of Dr. Flanders, head of the sex research laboratory,

and when the doctor mentioned he needed a highly qualified female assistant with a medical degree who could take shorthand as well,

Dr. Chamberlain recommended Dr. Alcott without hesitation.
